what is this place?

Hello visitor! Out of boredom, a desire to learn CSS and HTML, and to have a home for me to safely navigate a web that is increasingly driven by profits and ads, this (part of the) website was born. Moreover, for the longest time I've been plagued by a huge nostalgia for the old web I grew up with: vast amounts of personal blogs where people would code and design their own web layouts and a multitude of different pages that reflected the interests of their owners. This website is an ode to the old web and the resurgence of similar websites in the current landscape of rigid, centralized social media companies used to house personal memories.

I'm coding aspects of this website in purely HTML and CSS as much as possible, inspired by websites such as Low Tech Magazine, The Website Obesity Crisis and The Energy of HTML. Plus, it's a great relief for a beginner web coder like me. :-)

what can you expect?

The subpages under 'precipice' (where you are right now, my digital home), belong to the personal side of this website. As a personal website, there are no set pages, and this space is a continuous work in progress. Pages may be added and edited over time. There will be no central theme to the aesthetics or a single layout; as a means of self-expression this website will be a kaleidoscopic collection of loose pages, a collage of my interests and fancies across time.

While an homage to the web of the 90s and early 2000s, which were primarily made to serve desktop computers (not mobile devices) and often lacked accessibility, I am striving to make my pages accessible and inclusive as much as possible, by trying to follow the WCAG standards for accessibility. I am currently in the process of editing existing pages, so this may take some time.

BIG DISCLAIMER!!! I do not, in any way, optimize coding my web pages. They're a mixture of trial and error, figuring out how I can do something in purely CSS and HTML, and probably don't check all the "best practices" boxes. I'm here to have fun, experiment and play. In any case, feel free to view source on any page, and hope you enjoy your stay on this website!
